Addressing operational challenges at Kazakhstan’s border and port facilities
Source:ITC News
Kazakhstan sits at a crucial point on the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor, a major trade route that connects China to Europe.
A field mission to three critical border crossings identified ways to smooth the flow of trade through the country. It’s one of the ways that ITC works to put policies into practice so that trade works better for everyone.
The mission visited Kaplanbek and B. Konysbayev, two land border crossings with Uzbekistan that have recently undergone upgrades. Both experience high volumes of truck traffic. The team also visited the Aktau port on the Caspian Sea, the gateway to Europe.
Before the visit, the International Trade Centre (ITC) conducted a preliminary analysis of key issues reported by businesses, along with a field assessment. The onsite visit from 28 July to 2 August allowed experts to observe clearance procedures in real time. They interviewed customs and other border regulatory agencies, and held in-depth consultations with freight forwarders, customs brokers, transport operators, and traders.
